48 and 5th NY
(acrylic on acrylic board (29.7mm x 42.0mm)
This is another image from my New York and Boston trip taken some time ago. I find that I really favour these busy street images and particularly enjoy painting people and traffic. I think that cityscapes of a variety of styles become my hallmark works, and that’s what I enjoy painting most.
Of course with any New York street scene there has to be the iconic yellow cab, and there is one right in the foreground of this composition of the junction of 48 and 5th. Another thing that I particularly like about this one is the angle of the composition, which almost tilts the image.
I struggled a bit painting all the sky scraper blocks, but once they were completed and I could move my attentions forward to the street scene, I enjoyed working on this.
