Exmouth Harbour
Acrylic on Board (A3) (Unframed)
This is probably the last painting I shall do taken from the Exmouth/Budleigh sketchbook. I wondered about doing this view. I had wandered around the small inlet, crammed with boats on a cool, sunny Sunday morning and tried different views. I have already done a couple of water colour/pen sketches of that sitting from different viewpoints
Whilst I really liked this view, it felt very complex, and I wondered if it might be a bit fussy to paint, especially with my determination to always paint lots of small brush detail.
No matter. I liked the haphazard way the boats were docked on the small foreshore and the variety of shape and colour, so here it is. I think it’s worked reasonably well. The part I am most happy with is the water from the horizon downwards, on the right hand side of the composition. It’s the part painted most freely.
