Field at Mottisfont Acrylic on Acrylic Board (A3 Unframed)
Mottisfont is a National Trust Stately Home, not far from Romsey in Hampshire, and about 25 miles from where I live. It’s possibly the closest NT site to us, and we frequently visit it. It has excellent exhibitions from time to time; Christmas in the house is an absolute delight, and the surrounding fields make for good rambles, particularly as they cling to The river Test, a fine chalk river full of trout.
On one of our winter walks I took some snaps of the winter foliage, and this painting is based on one of them. When I saw this scene I was immediately attracted to the sweep of the trees, and the many shapes made against the sky by the myriad of branches and twigs.
Painting it was a real battle, and not one that I feel that I have won. I’m not sure what to do with this, keep it or discard it. If anybody wants to save it, any offer in the region of £100 secures, but unframed.
