Acrylic on water acrylic board (circa A3) (Unframed)
I am gradually working my way through portraits of my family. I have done my grandchildren, sometimes more than once, and now I am working through nephews and nieces. I think this is the only one that I haven’t done yet.
OK, I thought it was the only one left to do last time. I was wrong! But this one, the eldest Great Niece, definitely IS the last one left to do. Here in her school uniform, I particularly liked the vibrant red cardigan. So much more interesting than the standard grey or navy blue varieties.
I worked hard on the skin tones. I found her complexion to be very soft and the cheeks were hard to blend in. It would have been easy to make the skin tones darker or with deeper hues. I avoided that and rightly so I feel.
I deliberately kept the background simple to create a vivid effect against the red cardigan. However, I felt the hair was less successful than I often manage to do it. It feels a bit harsh.
Otherwise, OK
