Acrylic on Acrylic Board (circa A3) (Unframed)
I have now painted all three grandchildren, and Abigail twice. I have painted my daughter Claire, their mother, and so I thought it was now time that I added my good lady to the family gallery.
This was taken from a snap when we were walking along Lepe Beach, not far from where we live, on a rather chilly, blustery late winter’s day. You can assess the weather by the way the hair is blown about and tousled, and by the presence of a warm anorak.
I have painted Jenny twice before, but a vey long time ago, once when she was showering, leaning against the tiles under a jet of hot water, and attending to her feet. Not particularly romantic, but I liked the composition, and once when we were in Venice. Jenny was sitting in reduced light, late at night, on the edge of the bed.
This is a very different kind of image. It’s Jenny in an almost daily situation. We often take walks and in particular we like to tread the sands of the various beaches that are near us.
I spent ages painting the hair on this one, and was pleased with the outcome. I also think it’s a pretty good likeness, but I suspect she won’t have it displayed in the home. It may have to hang in my studio!
