Laugharne (A3 acrylic on acrylic board) (Unframed)
For this painting, I have returned to the original Llanelli sketch book and collected images. This is the second scene I have painted of the town, the first being Dylan Thomas’s house on the foreshore. What an inspirational place to live and work.
This is the town centre, such as it is. Only a small town with a single busy main road running through. Such a pity that heavy lorries thunder by most of the day.
The pub in the pic is well worth a visit, but it’s not Thomas’s original watering hole. That’s further up the hill and it’s now a fine dining steak restaurant. An excellent place for a special night out, but hardly the kind of place that Thomas would have found attractive. It’s changed a lot.
I like the ordinariness of this scene. Nothing picturesque or special, just a town in summer, going about its business.
I hope that you like it
