Norwich Castle Castle from The Forum (Acrylic on Acrylic Board) (A3 unframed)
As I wrote before, there are so many aspects of Norwich that invite me to paint them, and I try to avoid the cliche scenes that feature on a million postcards, but it’s difficult. For instance I have done two or three scenes of the market place, which is quite iconic.
The Castle I suppose is an equally iconic Norwich view, but perhaps not this particular view. As I wander I like to find what is perhaps a less obvious or well rehearsed view of a famous image. This one I believe fits that description, because it’s not a full on view across the multi coloured market stalls, which is the usual angle taken by photographers.
I like this because of the building to the right part shields the view, and the terrific contrast it gives of light and shade, and in particular I like the large chimneys standing statuesque in front of the Castle, The tree is amazing, a myriad of twigs and branches, and more interesting in this December view where it is gloriously leafless. A bit difficult to paint, but worth the effort I felt.
I like this composition. I love the colours. I hope that you like it too
