Railway Graveyard: Lydney Steam Railway
Acrylic on acrylic board (A4) (Unframed)
I did this from images sketched and photographed on a trip earlier this year to The Forest of Deane. I stayed near Lydney, and being a succour for steam railways, took a ride. Lots of photo opportunities, including this view of scrap. Old abandoned engines, beyond repair, probably scavenged for any useful parts.
What appeals here is the colour; the rust and decay, along with the sculptural, almost architectural shapes of the old boilers and cabs. An interesting collection of ramshackle leftovers.
This kind of image appeals to me, tho’ I accept not everybody is drawn to it, but it was worth painting for my own satisfaction, even if nobody wants to buy it.
