South Downs near Midhurst. (12 inches x 16 inches.) (Oil on Canvas). (Unframed)
On a recent trip to The South Downs I happened upon this view quite by chance. We were exploring a castle near to Midhurst and on a hot day, wandered along a country path, and there was this delightful view, rural and typical of the South Downs countryside. Apart from the vehicles it could have been a scene from Victorian times or earlier.
It was my travelling companion who noted it as a view that might make a good painting, so a quick sketch and a couple of photographs provided the material to take back to the studio to work on a short while later.
I thought the South Downs a most delightful area, full of walks and views, and this one for me, is a happy reminder of s a few days spent enjoying good company and good food
