St Peter Mancroft Norwich. A4 Water Colour/mixed media with pen on Water Colour paper
I think this picture reinforces the fact that I still struggle to come to terms with water colour. I keep trying, and this is another of my most recent attempts.
It’s a water colour painting, A4, and it’s on water colour paper,
It was taken from images collected on a recent trip to Norwich. I was specifically looking out for images where I could try some more water colour paintings, and as I enjoy church interiors, I thought I would give this one a try. I would of course have been better off heading out to The Broads or Breydon Water to find some open views with big skies. That would be a much better composition to practice on,. However, I didn’t, and wandering around the City I ambled into St Pater Mancroft, which was the church where our Grammar School used to hold its annual Christmas Service.
I suspect the memories were better than this paining. I have struggled with it. I have tried to liven it up with a bit of mixed media and the usual application of pen and ink. I’m happy with the composition, it’s just the technique that fails me. I’m too timid with the water, and really I just don’t know enough about the technique to do it.
But I shall keep at it.
