Street Cafe. Clifton. Bristol. ( acrylic on acrylic board) (A3. Unframed)
On a recent sketching/photographic trip to Bristol, I concentrated on either dockland scenes or city scenes. This was from some of the city images that I collected. On a pretty hot day I had carried my sketching bag and camera equipment from the docks, walking uphill to The Clifton Suspension Bridge. Distance wise, only about a mile and a half, but I hadn’t allowed for the incline!
I had wanted to grab some images of, and from the bridge, which I did, after which, I felt much in need of coffee
I knew that in Clifton there was a surfeit of good cafes, so I headed back in that direction, selecting this one, which made and served particularly good home made cakes. I thought the scene to be quite captivating and potentially a good composition, so as I sipped my capuchins, a quick sketch and a few frames grab be,d and this is the result.
I originally thought to leave out the scaffolding, but on reflection decided to leave it in as I find it quite sculptural, and I felt it actually added to the composition. I don’t know what you think, but please let me know.
