Vermuden’s Drain. Horseshoe Drove. Chatteris

£65.00£125.00

I gathered quite a lot of material in my Fenland sketchpad and on camera when I had a few days in Chatteris in September. I love The Fens, the big skies and wide horizons, with unbroken views for miles.

This scene is a little different and it interested me because of its history. Vermudan was the Dutch engineer who in the 1800’s came to The Fens to design and install the drainage that enabled land to be reclaimed, so I am assuming, despite this lock now being overgrown and redundant, that at one time it must have been a part of the new irrigation system.

Description

Vermuden’s Drain. Horseshoe Drove, Chatteris (A4 Watercolour on watercolour paper) (Unframed)

Anyway, I liked the composition so here is an attempt at watercolour. As you know not a medium I am confident with, but I feel this is better than others I have. tried.
